How to Choose Bathroom Sets

If you’re not sure where to start when looking at bathroom sets here is our easy buying guide for choosing accessories which will look great in your bathroom.

1. Consider What You Need

As bathroom sets come in all different combinations of items from just a few items to everything you could possibly want to use in your bathroom, think about what you need before you begin looking. What is essential for you and what would you be paying for in a set that you really don’t need or want?

Consider which of the following items would be essential, useful or nice to have

  • soap dish
  • toothbrush mug or holder
  • lotion bottle
  • storage pots or jars
  • tissue box cover
  • toilet roll holder
  • wastebasket
  • shower curtain
  • bath mat
  • towels

2. Think about Color and Materials

If you have not yet chosen a color scheme for your bathroom you will have more choice. However if you already have your paint and tile colors in mind you can just look at the options which will suit your bathroom decor. One thing to remember is to consider whether your bathroom falls in the warm color range (think creams, terracotta, wood, gold and other natural colors) or whether you are looking at cool clear shades (think white, grey, black and chrome). The former would look good with wooden or cream accessories while the latter would be better with white, clear glass or stainless steel.

3. Set a Budget

Consider how much you have to spend on your bathroom set so that you don’t go looking at sets which are way over budget. But do be open to something which is truly spectacular. It is pointless spending thousands remodeling your bathroom and then losing the opportunity to enhance it with something great. You also don’t want to go too cheap and make your bathroom look awful with ugly white or colored plastic bath accessory set.

4. Go Browsing

Take a look at the many options available online to get ideas. Chances are you will come across something you love and if it meets your requirements for price, color and make up of items then you may just want to order it otherwise create a short list of your favorites.

5. Evaluate Your Short List

Match your favorite bath sets against the following criteria

  • Is the bathroom set within budget?
  • Does it include all the items you want?
  • Will you use all the items that are included?
  • Can you buy items individually?
  • Are the colors in keeping with your bathroom color scheme or the kind of look you might like for your bathroom if you have not decided on one yet?
  • Does the price include shipping charges?
  • How quickly can you have the bathroom accessory set delivered?

6. Choose and Make your Order

Make your final choice from the bathroom sets on your short list, make your order and then all you have to do is wait for your bathroom accessories to arrive and make your bathroom great!

Bathroom Sets in Every Color

If you are planning a new bathroom color scheme it is useful to think about where bathroom sets fit into the picture because you truly can get them in every color but sometimes it’s worth starting with a set of accessories and building your bathroom color scheme around that.

You’d think it would be easier to start with the big areas such as tiles or flooring (once you have chosen your main bathroom fittings) but that’s not always the case when you want something special.  The thing is the tendency is to go for neutral colors in these areas which don’t add much to your (inevitably) white sink, bath tub and toilet and then you have lost an opportunity to make a great scheme.

Think above all about the effect you want to create with your bathroom before you choose your colors.

All white accessories have a classic go-with-everything feel but you have to be careful that they are not just a little too boring especially if you have an all white bathroom. Could being a little more daring with your soap dish and toothbrush mug give your bathroom a much needed boost?

Similarly a chrome bathroom set goes well with chrome shower fittings and faucets or taps but if you want something a bit more colorful, how about these ideas?

  • a blue mosaic bathroom set incorporating turquoise, royal and navy shades goes well with many bathrooms and you can use the blue colors to match up towels and other accessories without being too limited with your choice.
  • a wooden bathroom set goes great with either cream or white and can help give your bathroom a colonial feel especially if you complete it with wooden shutters or blinds and some large green plants.
  • a bright lime green bathroom set can look good in a fun bathroom. Think shower curtains decorated with cartoon frogs.
  • a set of red accessories would look good in a pure white bathroom and a red bathroom set could be teamed with other colors such as navy blue for a nautical look  or with green (think summer poppies in a vase).
  • a black bathroom set can be effective for a monochromatic look which can be very sophisticated. It is also reminiscent of the art-deco era. Think black and white tiles on the floor and thirties shaped bathroom fittings.

Apart from these color ideas there are also many bathroom accessory sets available locally and online with decorative and fun motifs. Have fun exploring what is out there from dolphins to cartoon characters (great for kids’ bathrooms). Simply choose from the huge range of bathroom sets out there and you can add a new lease of life to your bathroom, matching your tiles and flooring to your new theme.

Tips on Choosing Kids Bath Sets

Choosing a bath set for the kids’ bathroom can actually be a bit tricky. In many homes kids tend to be assigned to use the shared bathroom, which is also the room guests generally use. So while you want the bathroom to be fun and reflect the personality of your children, you also want it to be functional for guests. Trying to achieve this balance can sometimes lead parents to choose neutral color bathroom sets that do not appeal to either group.

If you think about it however, most guests in the average household tend to be extended family members or close friends, who also have kids. They are more than likely the kids’ grandparents, aunts and uncles, who are accustomed to and love our children. Therefore, they are generally more forgiving of a bathroom that might be decorated in a juvenile manner. The key to bringing it all together and pleasing both groups is moderation rather than going totally neutral and dull. This strategy will also allow the bath set to grow with the kids as they get a little older.

A theme is perfect for kids bath set but do not go overboard. Mix a few key pieces with some neutral ones. A fun duck or frog theme, or the Disney bathroom set you see below, are not going to offend any guest.

Encourage your children to be a part of the selection when you go shopping for kids bathroom sets. Give them options for colors and themes. They can quickly become overwhelmed in a store so discuss it at home using ideas from magazines and online sources. Look for bath sets that offer fun and innovative pieces, like a donut shaped soap dispenser or a fish shaped trash can. Match up brightly colored towels and soaps for punches of color and keep big pieces like the shower curtain neutral. This will keep the color from overwhelming the bathroom.

You can be creative and still keep it fashionable. Stay simple with only a few items on the counter top. This will make cleaning a breeze and keep it from looking cluttered. One last accessory is to keep a folding light weight step stool handy to help short legs get up to the sink. The grandparents won’t need it but your three year old son or daughter asserting their independence and wanting to be able to wash their own hands is sure to appreciate it.
